Course overview

The course is intended for people who do not already have a qualification in English and wish to gain a qualification in English functional skills

Session details

You must attend the information and assessment session to enrol on this course. At the information session, you will be asked to do a short assessment of your English skills to check that the course is suitable for you. In some instances you may be directed to a more suitable course.

Please bring any Maths or English certificates you have to the first session.

Eligibility criteria

Learners must be aged 19 or over to be eligible for this course. You would not be eligible for this course if you have already achieved a Level 2 in maths (that is an ‘O’ level grade C or above, CSE grade 1, GCSE grade C or above, Functional Skills Level 2, Basic Skills or Skills for Life Level 2 or similar). 

 

If you already have a maths or English qualification and are unsure whether you are eligible to enrol onto a course, please come along to one of our information sessions and chat to the tutor who will check this with you.

 

Venue and accessibility

The CHEC is located in the High Street in Madeley. The centre is fully accessible and there is a vending machine on site. There is some free parking to the rear of the building. The centre has Wi-Fi as well as a café area. Opening times vary. CHEC Centre is wheelchair accessible with disabled toilets available. There are local shops within walking distance. We offer four levels of functional skills from Entry 2 through to Level 2. There is opportunity to progress between levels up to Level 2.
