Course overview

This course is designed to help families understand what it means for you and your child to be ‘Ready for School’. You will be given a chance to learn new skills and meet other families as well as your Reception teacher. It helps your child build confidence about starting school and become more independent. The atmosphere will be informal, relaxed and friendly with a supportive tutor. Sometimes we work with different partners such as the school nurse and the healthy eating team. The course is mainly adult only but can involve the children for part of some sessions. The course is 4 x 2 hour sessions. Some examples of possible areas covered are: •Toileting •Eating •Speaking and listening •Developing independence.   However the tutor is always willing to adjust the content of the course at the request of parents/carers to help cover any other issues which will support the transition to school for their children.
