This accredited course is intended for people living in the UK who do not have English as a first language. The course studies English at an entry level, covering the three main components of language; Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening. Students will practise their skills in these areas through topical learning that is relevant to their life and work in the UK. By successfully completing this course, there is the opportunity to undertake nationally recognised ESOL exams at a level appropriate to the learner.
You must attend the information and enrolment session to enrol on this course.
At the information session you will complete a short assessment and if appropriate will be allocated to a course at a suitable level which may be on a different day and/or at a different venue.
Please bring any Maths or English certificates you have to the first session.
Learners must be aged 19 or over to be eligible for this course. The tutor will provide more information on eligibility to enrol on the course at the Information Session.

You will need to provide evidence of your income if you are employed and believe you are entitled to a free course. This could be a pay slip or contract of employment.
If you are employed, and earn more than £15, 736.50 the course is part funded by the government and you will be required to make a contribution of £40. We also operate a fee remission policy, so if you earn more than £15,736.50 per year but still cannot afford to pay for course you can apply for support. This may mean you get the course for free. Learners who want to progress can continue in their ESOL studies by working through the levels. Once level 2 is achieved, learners will have the opportunity to enrol for Functional Skills. There is also an opportunity to practice your communication skills at the English Café at the University Centre Telford and to progress onto an IELTS preparation which the University offer during the year.
