The course studies English at entry level covering the three main components of language: Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening. Students will practise their skills in these areas through topical learning that is relevant to their life and work in the UK. By successfully completing this course, there is the opportunity to undertake nationally recognised ESOL exams at a level appropriate to the learner.
You must attend the information and enrolment session to enrol on this course.
At the information session you will complete a short assessment and if appropriate will be allocated to a course at a suitable level which may be on a different day and/or at a different venue.
Please bring any Maths or English certificates you have to the first session.
Learners must be aged 19 or over to be eligible for this course. The tutor will provide more information on eligibility to enrol on the course at the Information Session.

You will need to provide evidence of your income if you are employed and believe you are entitled to a free course. This could be a pay slip or contract of employment.
If you are employed, and earn more than £15, 736.50 the course is part funded by the government and you will be required to make a contribution of £40. We also operate a fee remission policy, so if you earn more than £15,736.50 per year but still cannot afford to pay for course you can apply for support. This may mean you get the course for free. Please contact us if you would like to make an application.
Brookside Central has a large hall, a training room with computer access and other classrooms and meeting rooms. Free Wi-Fi is available. The building has a community run café which offers a range of hot and cold drinks as well as sandwiches and snacks. Opening times vary. The building has a wheelchair accessible toilet and the centre has automatic doors and ramped access from the main car park. There is another smaller car park located at the back of the centre. Learners who want to progress can continue in their ESOL studies by working through the levels. There is also an opportunity to practice your communication skills at the English Café at the University Centre Telford and to progress onto an IELTS preparation which the University offer during the year.
