Course overview

The course is intended for anyone who is interested in practicing or developing their craft skills.

During the course you will produce a portfolio of work towards the Level 1 Award in Craft and Enterprise (Open College Network West Midlands).

At the end of the course, you will have practiced or developed skills to produce a number of craft items and plan with intention to sell them:

  • Lino printing developing ideas from drawings and using two colours.
  • Needle felting landscapes
  • Embroidery Hoop Art

The course is taught in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and suitable for beginners. Learners with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs.

Session details

You must attend the information session where we will provide further information about the course. 

Places are limited and registering your interest and attending the information session does not guarantee a place on the course.

Assessment is completed via portfolio of work.
Learners will need to be able to attend at least 80% of the sessions to complete the portfolio and individual tutorials will be offered during the course.


Eligibility criteria

Learners must be aged 19 or over to be eligible for this course.


The course is free if you are:

  • Unemployed
  • or you are employed and earn less than £15,736.50 annual gross salary


You will need to provide evidence of your income if you are employed and believe you are entitled to a free course. This could be a pay slip or contract of employment.


If you are employed, the course is part funded by the government and you will be required to make a contribution of £195. We also operate a fee remission policy, so if you earn more than £15,736.50 per year but still cannot afford to pay for course you can apply for support. This may mean you get the course for free.   Please contact us if you would like to make an application.
