Course overview

This is a short Family Learning course intended for parents and their children to have a go at cooking using basic skills, for healthy eating, in an informal and friendly environment with an experienced tutor.

The course is intended for parents with little or no basic cooking skills, to prepare easy recipes that you can do at home and learn about healthier eating.

At the end of the course, parents will have gained confidence in cooking and prepared some pasta and sauces, curry, vegetable based meals,. There will be opportunity for their children to get involved with the course at various stages throughout. Ask tutor for deatails.

Learners with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs.

A crèche may be provided for this course, subject to demand. If you require a place for your child, please include your request when you register for this course.

Eligibility criteria

 

Contact the Silverthreads hall directly for details on eligibility Alan Watkins alan.watkins@thesilverthreadshall.org.uk. Adults do not need any previous experience. Any parents with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs. The course is available to all adults who have been refered from Child and Famililies services. If numbers applying for the course are high preference will be given to parents who: • Do not hold a full-level 2 qualification including English or maths. • Do not hold a level 2 Maths qualification • Do not hold a level 2 English qualification • Are unemployed or retired. • Are claiming JSA • Employed and looking to progress onto further Family Learning courses • Are parents/carers of children/young people who are entitled to free school meals. Parents who have been referred to the course for the purposes of improving their mental health and wellbeing
