Course overview

This course is intended for people who do not already have a Level 2 qualification in English and wish to gain a qualification in English functional skills.

We offer four levels of English functional skills from Entry 2 through to Level 2. There is opportunity to progress between levels up to Level 2.

Come along and find out more about our English Functional Skills courses from our experienced tutors. When you register your interest on the course, you will be asked to undertake a short online assessment to help us advise you on an appropriate course. If you have certificates for any maths qualifications already, bring them with you to the information session.

Our functional skills courses are offered across Telford in community venues. We run morning and afternoon sessions during school term time only. Courses are offered at different levels and are intended to provide an opportunity to work towards a City and Guilds qualification in Functional Skills English. During the information and advice session, the tutor will explain more about our courses and advise you of options for courses that are appropriate for you.

Please do not register your interest on more than one functional skills English course.

Session details

Our Functional Skills courses run for 18 weeks.

This course will be on Fridays 12:30-2:45

The tutor will then contact you the week before the course starts,  to discuss your screening.

We understand it can be difficult for you to take the first steps and try something new so, on the first day of the course, our friendly tutor will talk to you about the course and offer some useful information and advice.

Places are limited and registering your interest and attending the information session does not guarantee a place on the course.

Venue and accessibility

In response to Government guidance for COVID-19, the centre has put in place measures to make the centre as secure and safe as they can. All learners must remain outside the building until the course start time and must wear a face covering whilst in the building, unless exempt from doing so.  We will be encouraging all learners to voluntarily carry out a covid test before attending sessions, using rapid lateral flow home testing kits which we will supply.

We will keep learners informed if Government guidance changes before the start of the course.
