This accredited course is intended as a first step for people who want to volunteer or are interested to work as a Mentor.
During the course, you will understand about:
Learners will have an opportunity to gain an Level 1 Award in Mentoring Skills for Working with Young People (Open College Network West Midlands) and then continue their learning to progress onto the Level 2 Award in Mentoring course.
Assessment is completed via portfolio work.
Learners will need to be able to attend at least 80% of the sessions to complete the portfolio and individual tutorials will be offered during the course.
The course is taught in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with an experienced tutor and there is opportunity to meet and socialise with others in the group in a friendly, relaxed environment.
Learners with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs.

You will need to provide evidence of your income if you are employed and believe you are entitled to a free course. This could be a pay slip or contract of employment.
If you are employed, the course is part funded by the government but you will be required to make a contribution of £28.
We also operate a fee remission policy, so if you earn more than £17,374.50 per year but still cannot afford to pay for course you can apply for support. This may mean you get the course for free.

Unfortunately you will not be eligible to enrol on this course if you live in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull or Birmingham.
In response to following the government guidance for COVID-19, the centre has put in place measures to make the Centre as secure and safe as they can.
Therefore, all visitors must wear a face mask on entry and exit of the building. If arriving early, they must wait in the car park until the course start time and the tutor will give them further instructions when to enter.
You must inform the staff at the centre immediately of anyone is showing symptoms or testing positive for corona virus.
