This diploma is specifically designed for those with a fascination in human behaviour and what makes us tick. You will study a number of modules focusing on understanding what makes us human, why we behave the way we do and what role external factors and influences have on our psychological development. The roles and responsibilities of varying health professions is also key to the course allowing learners to study across a broad spectrum of work in this area. Our partnership with local universities including the University of Wolverhampton, Staffordshire University and University Centre, Shrewsbury means that you will have frequent opportunity to learn more about what vocational routes can lead from this diploma. We will also keep you updated about current government schemes for those entering the sector.

Crucially, you will begin your course by following a core of units that ease you into level 3 work and begin the preparations for academic study. You will also undertake key units in Academic writing to prepare you for the academic nature of the Access diploma. Research into applying to university as your course gathers pace will also be supported by your tutor as you are encouraged to devise and refine your UCAS application.

On completion of the diploma, you will have earned those all-important UCAS points to apply for degrees in Psychology, Criminology, Counselling, Social Work and much more.

Those who then go onto complete a degree will have the advanced learner loan for this course written off.

You will have one session per week with your tutor alongside 10 hours per week of guided online study. Your tutor will set study targets each week for your online learning and will incorporate tutorials into your weekly classroom based sessions. You must be able to dedicate a minimum of 15 hours per week of active study to your course. When you decide to do your online learning is flexible and up to you but you will be required to attend the classroom based session each week. Classroom sessions will complement the teaching and learning materials that will be made available to you via online learning. All assessments and assignments will take place and be submitted via the online portal with access given to you, your tutor and external moderators.

No previous study experience study in psychology is necessary but you will need at least a GCSE A-C/ Grade 5 or above or Level 2 equivalent in English Language to apply plus a minimum of  a Level 1 maths and Level 1 Science as well as a passion for learning and the desire to achieve your goal. If you do not have the necessary qualifications, but feel you can demonstrate skills at that level, please make this clear in your application. You will undertake a pre-course online assessment module prior to being offered a place to demonstrate your suitability for the course.

You will need to be able to dedicate a minimum of 15 hours per week study to the programme, 5 of which will be classroom based.

Once you have applied and have successfully completed the online assessment you will be informed of how to pay for your course. Your attendance on the course is only secure once payment or the advanced learner loan is in place.

Bishton Court is wheelchair accessible and is situated on the ground floor, wheelchair accessible toilets are also available.

Public transport

Bishton Court is only a short walk away from Telford bus station by walking through the shopping centre towards Aldi car park.  You then need to cross the road and walk through The Station Quarter and we are situated on the corner by The Quad building.  We are also only a short walk from Telford Train Station over the bridge. 

Various parking is available at the town centre at a charge.  There is no parking onsite at Bishton Court.
