Course overview

This course is for learners who have English as an additional language and already have some basic English reading, writing, and speaking skills.   

During the course you’ll be practising English relevant to everyday life.  As communication is often online in the UK, you will also have the opportunity to develop essential digital skills too.  This might help you to:

  • communicate with medics and doctors or a housing officer, for example
  • make new friends in your local area
  • support your children with their school work
  • use online platforms for Council services
  • find a job or a get a better job

The practical hands-on sessions take place in an informal and friendly environment with an experienced tutor at a central venue in Telford that is accessible by bus, train or car.

Places on this popular course are limited to the number of computers available at the venue.

If you are already enrolled on one of our ESOL Skills for Life English courses in the community, you can attend FREE this course too.

At the first session your tutor will ask you to complete an enrolment form.  Please bring a form of photo ID with you to the first session.

This course runs for 3 sessions. There may be an opportunity to continue onto an accredited 10-week course. Please note there is no session on 26th September.

Eligibility criteria

Learners must be aged 19 or over from 1st August 2024

Unfortunately you will not be eligible to enrol on this course if you live in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull or Birmingham.

The course is FREE for those who are eligible to enrol on the course.

Venue and accessibility

MEETING POINT HOUSE

Meeting Point House is wheelchair accessible and has a lift to the second floor, wheelchair accessible toilets are also available.

Car Parking:

There are several car parks situated in the area around Southwater, the cheapest option for all day parking is: Brown Elm Car Park, Telford, TF3 4BX

Bus:

Meeting Point House is a short walk away from Telford Town Centre main bus station, either through the shopping centre, or crossing over the road through the Brown Elm car park.

Train:

Telford Central railway station is just under a mile away and approximately a 25-minute walk following signposted pedestrian routes. Telford Central station, Euston Way, Telford, Shropshire, TF3 4LZ.
