Course overview

During this course you will develop a variety of craft printing skills and create beautifully decorated artwork and crafts using your prints, to give as gifts for special occasions or use as ornaments for your home. You will also learn some enterprise skills and contribute to an project to make and sell craft pieces.


Art can be very therapeutic and help you to spend some time away from the stresses of everyday life and enjoy some ‘me’ time.

During this course you will have the opportunity to:

  • understand about basic printing methods - Mono-printing, Polytile printing and String printing
  • explore materials and equipment needed for printing
  • experiment using variety of materials to create different textures and patterns
  • learn about using sustainable materials and being resourceful to create art
  • encourage to reuse materials and upcycle to make beautiful crafts
  • explore colours, collage layering to produce decorative and textural effects.

On the course you will produce a portfolio of work towards the Level 1 Award in Life Living and Skills - Craft Pathway (AIM Qualifications).

You will study units in:

  • Creative Craft
  • Enterprise in Craft

If you have already achieved the qualification from Open College Network West Midlands Level 1 Award in Craft Design or Craft and Enterprise you will not be eligible to join this course.

All materials will be provided on this course.

The course is taught in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and no previous experience is needed. Learners with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs.

After you have registered your interest, please check your emails or spam folder for an acknowledgement email from us. You will be contacted before the start of the course with further details.

At the first session, your tutor will ask you to complete an enrolment form.
Please bring a form of photo ID with you to the first session.

Eligibility criteria

The course is free if you are:

  • Unemployed
  • or you are employed and earn less than £25,000 annual gross salary

You will need to provide evidence of your income if you are employed and believe you are entitled to a free course. This could be a pay slip or contract of employment.
If you are employed, the course is part funded by the government but you will be required to make a contribution of £150.

We also operate a fee remission policy, so if you earn more than £25,000 per year but still cannot afford to pay for course you can apply for support. This may mean you get the course for free.  Please contact us if you would like to make an application.

If you have already achieved the Open College Network West Midlands Level 1 Award in Craft Design or Craft and Enterprise you will not be eligible to join this course.

Learners must be aged 19 or over from 1st August 2024

Unfortunately you will not be eligible to enrol on this course if you live in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull or Birmingham.

Venue and accessibility

Hollinswood Pavilion is situated less than 1/2 a mile away from Telford Town Centre and walking distance from Hollinswood Primary School.

Parking is available inside the gated area of the Pavilion or directly outside in the public car park next to the playing field.
