Course overview
This accredited course is intended for learners who have completed the Level 1 in Craft & Enterprise course and want to continue their learning by progressing to a Level 2 Award in Craft & Enterprise.
On this course, you will explore how to develop your skills further in drawing and painting techniques, and experiment using a variety of art and paint materials, and gain confidence to create some beautiful pieces of artwork, to give as gifts for special occasions or use for your home. You will also learn some enterprise skills and contribute to an project to make and sell craft pieces.
- experiment further in drawing techniques using various drawing materials - tone, shade, pattern
- understand how to use materials and equipment safely and look after your equipment
- experiment to create interesting textures with different materials
- understand about being sustainable, and more resourceful with materials to create your art
- encourage to reuse materials and experiment by using upcycled materials in the artwork
- explore colours, collage layering and produce exciting decorative and textural effects.
You will produce a portfolio of art work and written work towards the Level 2 Award in Skills for Living and Work - Craft Pathway (AIM Qualifications) and be able to attend at least 80% of the teaching sessions to do this.
If you have already achieved the qualification from Open College Network West Midlands or AIM Level 2 Award in Craft Design or Level 2 in Craft and Enterprise you will not be eligible to join this course.
You will study units in:
- Creative Craft
- Enterprise in Craft
All materials will be provided on this course.
The course is taught in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and no previous experience is needed. Learners with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs.
Session details
This course is for 12 weeks, please check you can attend every session for the whole course.

At the first session, your tutor will offer you details about the course, and a chance to ask any questions.
Eligibility criteria
You should have already completed a Level 1 Award in Craft Design, Craft and Enterprise or similar qualification to be eligible to enrol of this course.
The course is free if you are:
- Unemployed
- or you are employed and earn less than £25,750 annual gross salary
You will need to provide evidence of your income if you are employed and believe you are entitled to a free course. This could be a pay slip or contract of employment.
If you are employed, the course is part funded by the government but you will be required to make a contribution of £189.
We also operate a fee remission policy, so if you earn more than £25,750 per year but still cannot afford to pay for course you can apply for support. This may mean you get the course for free. Please contact us if you would like to make an application.
Learners must be aged 19 or over from 1st August 2025
Unfortunately you will not be eligible to enrol on this course if you live in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull or Birmingham.

Sutton Hill Community Centre is now part of Madeley Town Council. The centre offers a large hall and two classrooms available to hire, including computer access.
There is a community run café which offers a range of hot and cold drinks as well as sandwiches and snacks. Opening times vary.
The building is wheelchair accessible. Free car parking is at the centre along with local shops.
