Course overview

This is a new introductory course to understand about children and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and provide an opportunity to learn through a supportive and informative approach.

This course is intended for parents and carers with children or adults with SEND, or anyone interested in looking for work within this area to support someone with SEND.

During this course you will learn about: 

  • types of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities such as autism, ADHD and learning disabilities
  • support provided in schools and colleges for children with SEND
  • Health and Social Care for SEND young people and adults
  • local and national information for carers

Learners with any special needs can discuss these with the tutor at enrolment to ensure that the course is suitable or can be adapted for their needs.

Session details

This is a 5 weeks course. If the date or times are not suitable, we will be offering more courses later in the year.

Once you've registered your interest, you will receive emails from us to keep you updated and to provide you with more information.

Before the course starts, you will receive an email with a link to complete an Application form.
Please complete the Application form as early as possible.

At the first session, bring your ID and the tutor will offer you details about the course, and a chance to ask any questions.

Eligibility criteria

Learners must be aged 19 or over from 1st August 2025.

Unfortunately you will not be eligible to enrol on this course if you live in Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Dudley, Solihull or Birmingham.

The course is FREE for those who are eligible to enrol on the course.

Bishton Court is situated in the new Station Quarter area next to The Quad building. The address is:

Bishton Court is wheelchair accessible and is situated on the ground floor, wheelchair accessible toilets are also available.

Free tea and coffee are available at Bishton Court during your course.

Public transport

Bishton Court is only a short walk away from Telford bus station by walking through the shopping centre towards Aldi car park.  You then need to cross the road and walk through The Station Quarter and we are situated on the corner by The Quad building.  We are also only a short walk from Telford Train Station over the bridge. 

Free parking is available for the duration of your course at Southwater multi storey car park.  Ask your tutor for further information on the day. Use the postcode TF3 4BZ to take you to the Southwater multi storey car park

There is no parking onsite at Bishton Court.

Learners can also progress onto other child related courses including Child Behaviour, Child Development Level 1 & 2, Supporting Children's Learning Level 1 and 2, Dyslexia Awareness Level 2.

For learners looking for work or who want a change in career, we can offer you advice to guide you in the right direction and opportunities to gain qualifications in English and maths in Functional Skills and ESOL up to Level 2.
